What an inspiration!

Hi MG!

It is incredibly inspiring coming onto this website and finding that you are still using blogging tools for your teaching. As your former student, I continue to use a blog site for my own students. They LOVE it and year 12 find it particularly useful. In fact, I have year 12s who have commented on how "safe they feel knowing they have recorded lesson recaps online". I can't wait to see what you produce this year!

As a former student in my third year of teaching, I was thrilled to have my own students coming to me saying "OH my Gosh miss, we have your lecturer you had at Uni, and he is doing blogging like you!"- My ex-students are currently in your class- I will let you know who they are later on. So thankful to you MG- what an inspiration- your enthusiasm has caught on!

I should also mention that today in my year 9 class I was teaching the students about the importance of poetry. We began discussing the origins of lyrical poetry and rhythm etc. At one point I had a flashback and remembered William Butler Yeats' "Down by the Salley Gardens", and how you played the song for us. So I paused, put the poem on through the plasma and they were incredibly engaged. We broke it down and they asked to hear it many times. I was so thankful to you and told them the story about how you did the same thing for us as students. This is a particularly challenging class in terms of their learning abilities, so it is important for me to constantly keep them engaged. Yeats' "Salley Gardens" did it!

Thanks MG- perpetually inspired by your teaching!

Hi Justine.... great work... yes blogging here is going from strength to strength and I am loving using the Page Function in WordPress to allow students to easily build an ePortfolio from their Literature Blogs. My main site is now http://michaelgriffith1.wordpress.com , but I still copy and paste material from there into LiveJournal- which I still love.
Cheers
Michael

Thanks Justine... I got your message both on LiveJournal (which I still keep active for the likes of yourself) and in WordPress- which I find more userfriendly for my students. I am trying to impress the powers that be that a public blog for my students (with safeguards and guidance in place - of course) not only enables them to develop a professional space valuable for their future as teachers, but also keeps an network alive once they leave university.... so vital... so all the supportive comments you can manage from that direction the better. It is an accident this year that they have let me go public. They threaten to put this activity behind a firewall again next year.... so I have to prove the value of this public space. Thanks for your support.
MG
